Zach Sheets (b. 1991) enjoys a multi-faceted career as a performer/composer, a chamber musician, and as an advocate for funding in the performing arts and arts education. He is a flutist in Duo Axis and flutist for the [Switch~ Ensemble]; Principal Flute of the Cape Symphony Orchestra; and Manager of Institutional Giving at Community Music Center of Boston.

An active freelancer, recent engagements include the Boston Ballet, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Ensemble Signal, New World Symphony, Phoenix Chamber Orchestra, Talea Ensemble, Albany Symphony, Portland Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic and more. Solo/recital performances have been presented by the Spoleto Festival USA, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston; NEC’s Jordan Hall; and the Houston Flute Club. During the summer, he has performed as part of the Aldeburgh Festival, Royaumont Voix Nouvelles, Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, ManiFeste@IRCAM, Klangspuren Ensemble Modern Academy, and June in Buffalo Festivals.

 

Awards include a 2021 Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellowship; 2020 St. Botolph Club Emerging Artist Award; the 2017 Byron Hester Competition (1st prize); 2015 Tallon Perkes Competition (1st prize); and San Diego Flute Guild Young Artist Competition (3rd Prize).
